Rachel Matthews isn't one to rely on others to take care of her. Homeless and alone, she still wants to make her own way and her own money to buy back the family ranch - even if she's forced into the life of a dance hall girl. Horrified by her circumstances, Rachel's brother, who is away mining for gold, sends a friend to rescue her.
Cattle baron John McIntyre is focused on acquiring as much land as possible in Montana and has little time to deal with a dance hall gal. Rachel isn't sure she can take one more day in John's home - especially once she discovers that he's the one who holds ransom the key to her family's future.
Sparks fly between this spunky, independent heroine and the ruggedly handsome hero as they navigate the snarled terrain of pride, greed, faith, and love in Maggie Brendan's delightful series set in the Old West.

Love Maggie Brendan stories! I wish I could afford to buy all her current books, but even the Kindle books by her are expensive (for my pocketbook anyway) But that aside, this story, as with the others that I have read, are filled with human emotion, love, heartache and happy endings. It is centered around faith--the faith a person has that goes by the bible, faith for family and for the future. I would highly recommend any of Ms. Brendan's books to anyone who loves faith based romance in the 19th century.Product details

A Sweet Misfortune Virtues and Vices of the Old West Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Maggie Brendan Rebecca Gallagher Oasis Audio Books Reviews
I have a hard time putting Maggies books down . Its been a long time since I have enjoyed a authors books this much . I like the rolls Woman play in her old west setting .
This my kind of light vacation read. I enjoyed meeting this family of characters and the slightly predictable yet entertaining storyline.
I appreciated the unexpected twists and turn of the plot. The descriptions of Montana were well done. A caution to the author - be careful your characters do not occasionally slip into 2017 vernacular.
This was better than the one first book in this series, but frankly, I still have no idea why the characters decided they wanted to be best friends, or in love, other than being in close proximity to each other. I won't bother with any more books from this author.
Sometimes it's nice to just escape, and not have to work too hard on the read. If there's a drawback it it simple and somewhat predictable. That's also its best virtue. 😆. It's a wholesome book with values and love -with a bit of history!
Maggie's Sweet Misfortune captivated me on page one and kept me enthralled throughout the book. Rachel's spunky determination made for a lively read. The hard times that Rachel had endured during her young life strengthened her character. I found myself wanting to help develop the romance between John and Rachel. Estelle, with her strong faith and belief in those less fortunate, is one of the many enduring characters woven into this heartfelt story. As always, Maggie brings interesting historical facts into her novels. That, along with the vivid descriptions of the events, transports me back to this wonderful time in the old west This is one of my favorites, and it leaves me wishing for a sequel about Rachel's and John's future, as well as that of the other characters. I love the faith that is shared and encourages throughout the book. Thanks for another good read,Maggie.
I gave this story four stars, because I liked it. However, it dose need a little more editing for the story to flow smoothly. There are happy and sad moments in the book, but nothing really depressing like one finds in a lot of the Christian genre. I have no problem recommending this book.
BOTTOM LINE; good story line, quick read, with a little editing could be a five star.
