In the far Alaskan north, there are places the winter sun cannot reach. Places where light won’t shine for months. These are the places we hunt the monsters who feed on fear.

So begins the Killing Season.

For the next sixty-five days, we will face the darkness. Some will hunt the aswangs in the ever night, but I, Ollie Andrews, am here for one purpose to search for answers to my past.

They told us to fear the arctic tundra and the monsters hiding in the deep, dark shadows. But, locked inside a base known for driving even the best hunters mad, I fear it’s not the outside we should worry about, but the deepest, darkest parts of ourselves.

The real monsters are within.

When a brutal murder brings with it the secrets of Fear University—and the threat of an unknown killer on the loose—we all must fight to stay alive. But with madness and paranoia setting in during a whiteout snowstorm, all we can do is hope we don’t destroy ourselves before the sun finally rises again. Because no matter how hard we fight, reality will always threaten to tear us apart.

And when faced with the most terrible of truths, even the strongest break.

The Killing Season Fear University Book 2 eBook Meg Collett

The Killing Season is another heart-pounding story by Meg Collett. This series reminds me a little of the Razorland and Sirantha Jax books by Ann Aguirre. Not the storyline, but these books have the same dark, gritty feel. You never know what to expect because no character is safe. I'm on the edge of my seat just waiting for the other shoe to drop. This particular book does a nice job advancing the story, but there is still a lot learn about the characters and where they are going.

The narrative moves from the University to a aswang refuge in Anchorage, Alaska. Ollie shifts from being in a place of strength and nurturing to this new stark and dark reality. She is weakened by her past encounters and now placed in a place where, literally, the sun barely shines. She is bombarded by her discoveries and still hunted by both the aswangs and the university. Her relationship with Luke is still uncertain and she bears a lot burdens throughout this story. Dang, this girl needs a break! And yet, this story is so compelling and I had trouble putting the book down.

If you are a fan of dark, dystopian reads in the family of books like Enclave (Razorland, #1) by Ann Aguirre and The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins, you will definitely want to pick up this series.

The Killing Season Fear University Book 2 eBook Meg Collett Reviews

I can't do 5 stars for this one. It got a little slow in the middle and meandered a bit. Possibly because it was told from both Sunny and Ollie's perspectives.

It still gets 4 stars though because 4/5 of the way through you remember what it was that made the first book so enthralling, the mystery, the sheer brutality, the humanity, and the horror of the human condition and what we're capable of.

I'm not saying more than that. It was pretty rough though. I might have to read Harry Potter as an antidote
So, I thought Fear U was awesome..... The Killing Season was fah-reaking AMAZING!!! Totally had me biting my nails and on the edge of my seat!
I so didn't want to put the book down, but I started it at 900 pm and needed to sleep a bit after reading for 2 hours. I also had to do house stuff and eat the next day. Easter 2018.
I absolutely can't wait to start book 3, and then 4 😁💜
Love the characters, story line, creep factor and lovey stuff!
Meg Collette created a character with such potential in the first book, a tough survivor, only to turn her into a useless and helpless character in this book. There are plenty twists galore, but they are all so sadly obvious. In the middle of tracking down a killer in the Barrows fortress Ollie is offered a cup of coffee by a man that she's been ambivalent about trusting. Sure, just drink a full cup while he did there not touching his. Again, Ollie somehow went from a foreclosure independent, distrustful of everyone and everything around her character in book one to a total chump in book two with no reason or explanation. If you read and enjoyed the first book, STOP. DO NOT READ THIS ONE. You will only be disappointed. If give it a zero Star ranking if I could.
Ollie has survived the Fields, the first year exam with a hellish difference, but Dean has moved the goal posts again.

Suspicious of her loyalties he's sent her North to Barrow for Winter Break. Not only must she survive the predators outside the bunker, but the ones within.

As the body count starts to grow, answers start to come forward, but is she discovering them or being fed them?

Max is hot on her trail too and she's running out of time.
This second book in the Fear University series was amazing! It had everything I had hoped would be in it, and more. This book was really suspenseful and I was on the edge of my seat for 3/4 of the book. The only thing I honestly wish the author did was give us a little from Luke's perspective. I don't want to give anything away, but the romance was amazing and made me so happy. I'm diving into book 3 right now.
Well, what to write and what not to write. First of all, I would highly recommend the Fear University series to all who are in need of a really amazing story of a cruel but beautiful world. It is a story of pain and fear, of broken hopes and dreams and hearts and souls. It is a story of sanity in insanity, loyalty despite betrayal, friendship and love amidst hatred and death. It is a story about finding something whole and good and beautiful in the ashes of time and a broken, fragile world, of losing hope and believing in hope, of being broken and fixed and rebroken again and again.

However, be warned. This is a story about monsters. Killers. Murderers.

"Once upon a time...a monster told me I was his daughter. That I was a monster too. But we're all just monsters. Fucked-up monsters who will kill each other. Slowly..."

But who's the real monster?
This series is addictive but definitely not for the faint of heart. It has a sadistic psychopath, lots of violence and abuse but it also has elements of friendship and loyalty. How the "Broken"can become a better version of themselves by investing in others and letting people in. Family is not just blood it is the people that would die for you and some of them did just that for Ollie. Parts of this story are disturbing but no more so than watching an episode of "Criminal Minds" and I do enjoy those types of shows.

Ollie is such a flawed and broken character but she is a survivor and someone so strong that others look up to her and would follow her into battle. The complicated relationships between hunters and pack members are interesting to delve into and while the ending was not a total surprise I was caught off guard by Hex and his motivations.

There is plenty of action and adventure but the story is better for the slow unraveling story line that has you turning just one more page till you have reached the end.
